On this 5 Days Wildlife and Cultural Tour you will explore Kidepo Valley National Park and also discover the Karamajong culture. Kidepo Valley National Park is the most remote Uganda wildlife destination with a semi-arid landscape which is similar to Masai Mara National Park in Kenya and Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. The park is home to a variety of wildlife including lions, leopards, cape buffaloes, giraffes among others.

The Karamajong are a semi- nomadic pastoralist/ Nilotic ethnic group depending on herding livestock, during your stay in the Karamajong village you will participate in several activities such as preparing stable foods, harvesting, beading, learn how to shoot bow and arrow, participate in friendly wrestling and be entertained by local dances and drama.

DETAILED ITINERARY OF 5 DAYS WILDLIFE AND CULTURAL TOUR

Day 1: Drive to Kidepo Valley National Park

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our guide and after a short briefing, you will embark on a journey to Kidepo Valley National Park. Along the way, you will drive passed the local villages and watch the local people going on with their daily activities.

Kidepo Valley National Park is the most remote wildlife safari destination in Uganda located in the semi-arid Karamojong region, Kidepo is ranked among the Africa’s wilderness parks and is home to a variety of wildlife including leopards, African buffaloes, zebras, giraffes, leopards, cheetahs, lions, African bush elephants, common elands among others thriving in the savannah landscape.

Along the way you will have lunch, arrive in the park in the evening, check – in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Full Day Game Drive in Kidepo Valley National Park

Have early breakfast and head to the park for a full day game drive exploring the semi-arid plains of Kidepo, game viewing in Kidepo Valley National Park is done in Kidepo Valley using several trails. The park is home to over 80 species of mammals including species that are endemic to Kidepo National Park like cheetahs, striped hyenas, caracal and over 460 bird species including ostriches.

During the game drive you will have a chance to watch several animals inhabiting in Kidepo Valley National Park including elephants, giraffes, zebras, leopards, lions, Greater and Lesser Kudu, Chandlers Mountain Reedbuck, Klipspringer, Dikdik, Bright Gazelle, Beisa Oryx, and Roan Antelope and primates such as Kavirondo bush baby which is unique to the area.

You will return to the lodge for lunch and after your meals and short rest, you will head back to the park for another game drive exploring the park more. In the evening you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer to Moroto

Have breakfast and with en-route game drive, you will checkout of your lodge and drive to Moroto arriving in time for lunch, later continue to the Karamojong Village.

You will spend the evening participating in several traditional games, daily activities such as preparing staple foods, harvesting, beading, learning and dancing, learn how to shoot bow and arrow and traditional friendly wrestling.

Spend a night with the Karamojong warriors in the kraal and experience the typical Karimojong pastoral life, spend time with the animals and shepherds in the Kraal, help bring the cows to the kraal and share stories with the local people at a campfire. Also, you will play several local games with the warrior and learn more about the nomadic life, the Karamojong are known for their nomadic lifestyle and are notorious cattle raiders. The Karamojong people are also known for their dressing code in form of a blanket-like shawl which is often in red and black, women wear elaborate beadwork.

Day 4: Hike Mount Moroto or bicycle tour in the Karamoja Villages

On this day, you choose either to hike Mount Moroto or have a bicycle tour around Karamoja villages. During the bicycle tour, you will visit different homesteads of the Karamojong people, visit the manyattas and enjoy the Karamojong culture and the surrounding plains.

On a hike on the Mount Moroto, you will enjoy the Karamojong nature, scenic views of the Kidepo Valley National Park and the surrounding. Return to your hotel or the village for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Drive back to Kampala

Have early breakfast and embark on a journey back to Kampala, along the way you will have lunch. When you arrive in Kampala, you will be dropped off either at the hotel or at Entebbe International Airport for your flight back home.
