Is Amboseli worth visiting?
Is Amboseli worth visiting? When you go on an African Safari, you will have to make a lot of choices. One of the most important will be which game area you’ll go to. Amboseli National Park will probably be at the top of your list. It’s a beautiful park southwest of Nairobi, Kenya, and you can see Mount Kilimanjaro from there. So, the question is, with all of Kenya’s National Parks to choose from, is it worth going to Amboseli?
Amboseli National Park is a great place to go on a Kenya safari. It has some of the same things to do as some of Kenya’s other popular national parks, but Amboseli’s unique camping safari experience and wide range of wildlife make it a Kenyan national park that you should definitely visit. But if you’re going to Maasai Mara, you don’t need to go to Amboseli. The two parks are pretty similar, so you won’t miss out on much. Most likely, your adventures in both parks will be very similar, but Maasai Mara has more variety. On the other hand, go to Amboseli if you love elephants and want to see a lot of them.
It’s well maintained.
Amboseli National Park is in great shape. The fact that it’s not a very big park is one reason why this is the case. The park guards can keep a close eye on all the animals and keep the roads in good shape.
A lot of variety.
In the Amboseli, there are many different kinds of animals and birds. This makes it a great place to go if you want to see a lot of different kinds of animals and birds. The following animals can be found in the Amboseli national park:
Concentrations of animals in the dry season.
The best time to visit any of Kenya’s national parks, including the Amboseli, is during the dry season. During the dry season, the park is a great place to see big groups of animals that gather near the water.
During the dry season, animals gather near the park’s few water sources. In turn, predators are attracted to water because that’s where they find their food. This means that you are more likely to see a game this hunting season.
Lots of elephants.
About 1200 elephants live in Amboseli national park. These elephants have been studied more than any other elephants in the world. Because it’s a small park, you’ll see a lot of elephants as you walk around. When I think of Kenyan National Parks, some of my most vivid memories are of seeing elephants.
View of Kilimanjaro.
Kilimanjaro is right next to Amboseli, and every once in a while you can see a glimpse of this beautiful mountain. Kilimanjaro is usually hidden by thick clouds all year round, so keep an eye out for it but don’t get too excited about it.
Distance from Nairobi.
The drive from Nairobi to Amboseli takes about 4 hours, and some people may not like it. From the Namanga junction, the road to Amboseli is rough and dusty, which may also put some people off. Consider the Nairobi National Park or Lake Nakuru National Park if you want a national park that is closer to Nairobi. They are closer to Nairobi and would be a bit like what you would find in the Amboseli.
You won’t get to see all the Big 5.
Amboseli national park does not have any rhinos. This means that if seeing the “big five” was on your list of things to do, you might not want to go to Amboseli. Even the other four of the “big five” are hard to find in the Amboseli. These are the lions and leopards, so people who want to see all of the “big five” animals will find this park less interesting.
A higher cost of entry.
The fee to get into the Amboseli national park is higher than the fee to get into most other national parks, except for the Mara national park. At the time this story was written, foreigners had to pay $70 per person per day to get in. When you add this to the other Safari costs, going to Amboseli is more expensive than going to other national parks closer to Nairobi.
Not a very big park.
Some of Kenya’s other parks are bigger than the Amboseli national park. This means you will spend less time in this park. This is something you need to think about when deciding if this spark is worth going to.
So is the Amboseli worth visiting?
If you have time and money left over after going to the Masai Mara, I think you should go to the park. But this shouldn’t be the only park you go to in Kenya. If it is, you won’t see all of the wildlife there is to see. I liked the Masai Mara more than the Amboseli, but I have a slight preference for the Mara.
